Nicaragua: Animal Design Containers
 Dona Mercedez is well known in the small town of La Paz Centro, Nicaragua.
She's been making traditional pottery in this small Nicaraguan town since she was a young girl.
She and her sisters, like most other girls here, learned how to make comales from her mother in
order to bring in money for the family.
As a young women she began working with Potters for Peace,
a non-profit organization in Nicaragua.
She dared to stray from the traditional utilitarian pottery pieces she was familiar with to more decorative pieces.
Over time she built a small workshop, experimented with the local clay colors, and
began having a distinctive style all her own.
She's crafted the toucan and fish planters below. It IS ok to plant in this pottery, but please note that
most of the other pottery we offer will NOT hold water.
